A powerful experience created to elevate caregivers navigating complex responsibilities.
You give endlessly.
Let us hold space for you to pause, connect, reflect, and move forward with intention.
Our approach is designed to strengthen the American caregiving experience, shaped by shared experience, not theory.
Caregiving is one of the most universal and least supported experiences in modern life. For those balancing professional responsibilities with the care of a loved one, the demands are constant, the decisions are complex, and the expectation is often to carry it all without pause.
The American Caregiver Experience exists to strengthen those in high-demand professional and leadership roles who are navigating these realities alongside full schedules and often unseen pressures. We understand how difficult it can be to step away. We also know the value of connecting with others who truly share similar circumstances.
Our work centers on thoughtfully curated, private, in-person gatherings that bring the right people together without pressure or performance. Each experience is shaped by those in the room, with a deep respect for privacy, autonomy, and alignment, ensuring your time with us is worthy of every moment spent away.
Whether you are providing full-time care at home, coordinating a network of providers from afar, or navigating a path somewhere in between, we create spaces for caregivers tending to aging loved ones, individuals with disabilities, those living with serious illnesses, chronic conditions, behavioral or mental health challenges, or if you are experiencing bereavement and grief.
Start with an intentionally curated in-person gathering
This experience begins in refined, restorative settings where every detail is considered, from accommodations and meals to pacing and personal time. Nothing is mandatory. Participation is always on your terms.
Every gathering is unique, but all retreats feature:
Premium accommodations in tranquil locations
Professionally guided wellness practices such as yoga, massage therapy, or pilates
Thoughtfully prepared meals shared in community
Information about real-world resources from relevant experts
Unstructured time for reflection, conversation, or quiet
Space to connect without performance or obligation
Opportunities to implement concrete and specific advice in your life by learning from others who understand
Gain perspective through shared experience
Caregivers often find the most meaningful insights come not from instruction but from conversations with peers and experts who understand the weight of the caregiving responsibility and the many ways it affects daily life. Our experiences are guided to encourage real-world connections while preserving discretion and personal boundaries.
Caregiving is not just logistical. It’s also emotional, cognitive, and deeply human. All retreat itineraries include activities designed to support each aspect of the caregiving experience.
Peer-to-Peer Networking
Personal Growth
Action Planning
Stay uplifted through a private, member-based community
The experience does not end when you return home. Participants are invited into a closed, members-only community designed for ongoing connection, peer conversation, and access to carefully selected, personalized resources.
This is not a public forum or social platform. It is a private place you can return to quietly, as often as you need.
Gain access to space designed to help you step out of constant demand. Take valuable time to reflect and regain clarity. Connect with others who understand the reality of caregiving while balancing busy lives. Find a pathway to return with renewed capacity, perspective, and ongoing endurance.
Caregiving is not a temporary issue. It is a defining part of modern life.
Understanding this Experience
-
This experience is designed for individuals who are:
Caring for parents, children, or partners with serious health challenges
Balancing caregiving with demanding careers or leadership roles
Managing complex, ongoing responsibilities with little space to pause, step back, and take the time to reflect with intention
Seeking more than surface-level support or traditional wellness experiences
Participants are often professionals, industry leaders, executives, founders, and community influencers.
-
There are many resources available to caregivers. Few are designed for those carrying significant responsibility across multiple areas of life.
The American Caregiver Experience is intentionally positioned to provide:
A carefully curated experience designed specifically for caregivers who value discretion and a supportive environment rooted in shared experiences.
Small and intimate in-person gatherings hosted in peaceful, premium locations that respect your privacy and give you time to focus.
An ongoing peer network with purposefully composed groups who provide guidance without pressure, relevant tips, and interpersonal encouragement based on real-world caregiving experiences.
A chance to share with and be there for caregivers who are balancing caregiving with the demands of everyday life related to career challenges, family dynamics, and any uncertainty that the caregiving journey may bring.
Every element, from group composition to environment to facilitation, is designed to support meaningful restoration and connection.
-
The American Caregiver Experience is intentionally different, we are:
Not a typical support group, but a curated and private peer environment
Not a typical wellness retreat, but a structured opportunity for recalibration
Not a content platform, but a lived, in-person experience
Not a vacation, spa getaway, or break from caregiving. It is a way to sustain it.
Not a replacement for medical/clinical care, mental health counseling, or family therapy.
Not a public facing or social-media-driven community.
Not an outdated workshop or one-size-fits-all retreat that minimizes the seriousness of caregiving.
-
The American Caregiver Experience was created for those who are managing professional and personal complexities in their everyday lives while caring for a child, spouse, parent, or anyone else you call family.
We understand that while most people don’t plan to be a caregiver and often don’t initially identify with the term, the responsibility and uncertainty for those in this role can be life changing in many ways.
The opportunity to step back and gain meaningful perspective can be the most valuable part of the caregiving experience. That’s why each retreat experience is intentionally held in small and intimate group settings, guided without pressure, and built around privacy and fit.
Caregiving doesn’t need to be fixed. It needs to be sustained humanely, thoughtfully, and with discretion. Think of this experience not only as entry into a peer network, but as an investment in yourself as well as those who rely on you across the spectrum of your life.
Much of the national conversation around caregiving has focused on policy, resources, and access to support providers. These are essential. But they do not fully address the lived experience of caregivers, particularly those balancing multiple layers of responsibility. Without meaningful opportunities to step away, reflect, and connect with others, caregivers are left to navigate this complexity alone.
The American Caregiver Experience exists to fill that gap.
Hello, and welcome.
MEET THE FOUNDER
MICHAEL REESE WITTKE, M.P.A.
PRESIDENT AND CEO
Caregiving is a personal journey, but in reality, it is also shaped by shared experience.
My work is influenced by nearly fifteen years as an expert advancing caregiving at the national level. That time was spent working across policy, research, and advocacy leading multi-sector coalitions hand-in-hand with caregivers and policy makers. Through that experience, one truth became clear to me: caregivers don’t need more generic information. They need connections with others who understand.
Unfortunately, most systems today fail to help caregivers find meaningful peer communities. Too often, caregivers are expected to adapt to systems that were never designed with them in mind.
The American Caregiver Experience was created to fill that gap. Not as a program or intervention, but as a thoughtful and guided way for caregivers to find each other, privately, intentionally, and with care for fit, lifestyle, and shared experience. It represents a different approach—one grounded in the lived realities of caregivers in high-demand roles with full and complex lives.
We create exclusive spaces where caregivers can pause, reflect, and connect, so they can return home with greater clarity, resilience, and a renewed sense of what is possible within the caregiving journey.
My role is not to provide all the answers but to hold space and help create the conditions for perspective, connection, and forward momentum.
I look forward to hearing your story and welcoming you to our experience when the time is right.
